How to give customers free access using a coupon
To give someone free access to a paid product, you can create a 100% discount coupon for that product. You can find the full setup instructions here: Coupon.
Once your coupon is created, simply share the product link and the coupon code with the customer. For example, you can send the coupon code through the following methods:
- Email or newsletter
- Social media posts
- An announcement banner on your store
When the customer visits the product page and proceeds to checkout, they can enter the code in the coupon field.
What happens when customers use the coupon
The system will automatically apply the 100% discount, allowing the customer to complete checkout and access the product without being charged. After the order is completed, the customer will immediately receive an Email Receipt with a to access their purchase.
If the purchase is a digital product, the email will include a download page link to access the file. If the purchase grants access to memberships, course lessons, or other gated content, the email will instead include a login link that allows the customer to sign in and view the content.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I manually add or bulk import customers?
Currently, there isn't a direct import option to bulk upload customers and grant access automatically. The best workaround is to provide customers with a 100% discount coupon, allowing them to claim the product for free.
How do I migrate customers from another platform to Payhip?
If your customers are currently on a recurring subscription, they will need to subscribe again. This is necessary because they must enter their payment details to securely set up the new subscription billing through Payhip.
If your customers have already paid for the current billing period on your previous platform, you can create a 100% discount coupon for their first month on Payhip. Ask them to subscribe using the coupon first, and only cancel their existing subscription on the previous platform afterward. This helps ensure they are not charged twice and makes the transition smoother.
Can I give free access without creating a coupon?
Yes, you can also create a free unlisted product and share the link directly with customers. This allows them to access the product without needing to use a coupon code.
