Unable to Connect PayPal

If you're having trouble connecting your PayPal account, there are several possible reasons why this may happen. Most connection issues are related to PayPal account settings, verification requirements, or browser-related limitations.

In this article, we'll cover the most common reasons this can happen and how you can fix them.

Why PayPal may fail to connect

1. Your PayPal account is not verified

To connect to PayPal successfully, your PayPal account must be fully verified.

PayPal will usually send a confirmation email with instructions for verifying your account. If you haven't received this email, you can request another verification email directly through your PayPal account.

If you still cannot find the email or complete the verification process, it's best to contact PayPal support for further assistance.

2. Your PayPal account does not have a payment method connected

Before your PayPal account can be connected to external platforms, it must have a linked payment method, such as a bank account or a credit/debit card.

This helps PayPal verify your account and ensures that transactions can be processed properly. If no payment method is connected, PayPal may prevent certain features, including account integrations.

3. You may need a PayPal business account

For many sellers, a personal PayPal account is sufficient to connect to Payhip and receive payments from customers. However, depending on your country, PayPal may require you to use a business account instead.

If you are based in one of the following countries, you can connect your personal PayPal account: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, San Marino, United States, and South Africa.

However, if you are based in a different country, PayPal may require you to use a business account in order to connect and receive payments.

4. You're using a mobile device to connect PayPal

Sometimes, connection issues occur when you try to connect your PayPal account using a tablet or mobile phone.
Such devices can occasionally cause problems with authentication or redirect steps during the PayPal connection process. If you're experiencing issues, try connecting your PayPal account using a desktop or laptop computer instead.

5. You may need to reconnect PayPal

In some cases, simply disconnecting and reconnecting PayPal can resolve the issue. This often resolves temporary connection errors.

To do that, go to your Account Settings and open the Payment Details tab. Under PayPal, click Manage, then disconnect and reconnect your PayPal here.

6. You previously connected the same PayPal account to another Payhip account

It is possible to connect the same PayPal account to multiple Payhip accounts. However, if the PayPal account was previously connected to a Payhip account that encountered issues, this may sometimes prevent it from reconnecting properly.

If you believe this may be the case, please contact our support team at contact@payhip.com so we can check the PayPal account connection on our end.
