What are root domains and subdomains?

Root domains are what you purchase when you buy a domain. An example of a root domain is  kingsandgenerals.net

Most people point their root domain to their online store.

Subdomains are additions to the root domain. For example  shop.kingsandgenerals.net

Instructions

To get your custom domain up and running with your Payhip store, we firstly need to know if you're planning to connect a root domain or a subdomain.

Show instructions for connecting root domain
  1. Log in to your Bluehost account
  2. Click on the "Manage" button for your domain
  3. Then click on the "DNS" tab
  4. Scroll down to the "DNS Manager" area. If already have an "A record" for "@" then you'll need to edit that row. Otherwise you'll need to create an entirely new A record for @. To edit your existing record, click the "..." button
  5. Under the "Host Record" field type @ and under the "Points To" field type 45.154.183.183 then finally click the "Save" Button
  6. Next if you already have a CNAME record for "www" - you'll need to edit that existing record. Otherwise you'll need to create a new "www" CNAME record. To edit the existing record, click the "..." button
  7. Under the "Host Record" field type www and under the "Points To" field type domains.payhip.com then finally click the "Save" Button
  8. Login to your Payhip account
  9. Click on the "Store" link in the header and then click on the "Domains" tab - you'll be taken to your domains page
  10. Click on the "Connect Existing Domain" button. A modal will appear, from there paste in your domain name and click the "Continue" button.
  11. Finally click on the "Verify Connection" button. That's it!

Now we wait. It can take up to 24-48 hours for domain changes to update.

If it’s still not working after that, you should contact Bluehost to help you figure out why.
