What are root domains and subdomains?

Root domains are what you purchase when you buy a domain. An example of a root domain is  kingsandgenerals.net

Most people point their root domain to their online store.

Subdomains are additions to the root domain. For example  shop.kingsandgenerals.net

Instructions

To get your custom domain up and running with your Payhip store, we firstly need to know if you're planning to connect a root domain or a subdomain.

Show instructions for connecting root domain
  1. Log in to your Namecheap account
  2. On your "Domain List" page, click on the "Manage" button for your domain
  3. On the next page click on the "Advanced DNS" tab
  4. You can then edit the "CNAME record" row for the host "www" by replacing the value with domains.payhip.com
  5. Next if you already have an "A" record for "@" - you'll need to edit that existing record. Otherwise you'll need to add an entirely new "@" A record now. Click on the "Add New record" button
  6. When adding the new record, set the "Type" dropdown option to A record, under the "Host" field type @ then under the "Value" field type 45.154.183.183 and set the TTL dropdown to 60 mins finally you can click the tick icon
  7. Login to your Payhip account
  8. Click on the "Store" link in the header and then click on the "Domains" tab - you'll be taken to your domains page
  9. Click on the "Connect Existing Domain" button. A modal will appear, from there paste in your domain name and click the "Continue" button.
  10. Finally click on the "Verify Connection" button. That's it!

Now we wait. It can take up to 24-48 hours for domain changes to update.

If it’s still not working after that, you should contact Namecheap to help you figure out why.
