What are root domains and subdomains?
Root domains are what you purchase when you buy a domain. An example of a root domain is kingsandgenerals.net
Most people point their root domain to their online store.
Subdomains are additions to the root domain. For example shop.kingsandgenerals.net
Instructions
To get your custom domain up and running with your Payhip store, we firstly need to know if you're planning to connect a root domain or a subdomain.
Show instructions for connecting root domain
- Log in to your Domain.com account
- Click the "Manage" button under the domain you are wanting to use with your Payhip store
- On the next page, you'll see a long list of links on the left hand side. Scroll down and click on the "DNS & Nameservers" link
- On the following page, click on the "DNS Records" tab
- You'll see a list of records. The columns are labelled "Record" and "Name" etc... Look for the row which has a "Record" of A and "Name" of @. Click the "..." icon for that row to edit the record.
- A dropdown will appear, click the "Edit" option
- A modal will then appear asking you to edit that DNS record. Replace the "IP Address" field with 45.154.183.183 then click the "Update DNS" button
- Next if you already have a CNAME record for "www" - you'll need to edit that existing record. Otherwise you'll need to add an entirely new "www" CNAME record now. Click on the "Add DNS Record" button
- A modal will then appear asking you to add a new DNS record. Under the "Name" field type www, under the "Type" field choose the CNAME dropdown option, under the "Content" field type domains.payhip.com and finally under the "TTL (Time To Live)" field choose the 1 hour dropdown option
- Login to your Payhip account
- Click on the "Store" link in the header and then click on the "Domains" tab - you'll be taken to your domains page
- Click on the "Connect Existing Domain" button. A modal will appear, from there paste in your domain name and click the "Continue" button.
- Finally click on the "Verify Connection" button. That's it!
Now we wait. It can take up to 24-48 hours for domain changes to update.
If it’s still not working after that, you should contact Domains.com to help you figure out why.
