What are root domains and subdomains?

Root domains are what you purchase when you buy a domain. An example of a root domain is  kingsandgenerals.net

Most people point their root domain to their online store.

Subdomains are additions to the root domain. For example  shop.kingsandgenerals.net

Instructions

To get your custom domain up and running with your Payhip store, we firstly need to know if you're planning to connect a root domain or a subdomain.

Show instructions for connecting root domain
  1. Log in to your 123-reg account
  2. You'll see a "Domains" row. From there click the "Manage" button
  3. You'll be taken to the domains page. Scroll down to the "Advanced domain settings" section and click on the "Manage DNS" link
  4. Again you'll be taken to a new page. Click on the "Advanced DNS" tab
  5. You'll see a list of records. The columns are labelled "DNS Entry" and "Type" etc... Look for the record which has a "DNS Entry" of @ and "Type" of A. Click the pencil icon for that row to edit the record.
  6. Replace the value of the "Destination/Target" field to the new value 45.154.183.183 then click the tick icon to save your changes
  7. Next if you already have a CNAME record for "www" - you'll need to edit that existing record. Otherwise you'll need to add an entirely new "www" CNAME record now. The last record listed on the page has a set of empty fields with an "Add +" button next to it. You can use this row to add your new record. Set the "Hostname" field to www, set the "Type" dropdown to CNAME and finally set the "Destination CNAME" field to domains.payhip.com then click the "Add +" button
  8. Login to your Payhip account
  9. Click on the "Store" link in the header and then click on the "Domains" tab - you'll be taken to your domains page
  10. Click on the "Connect Existing Domain" button. A modal will appear, from there paste in your domain name and click the "Continue" button.
  11. Finally click on the "Verify Connection" button. That's it!

Now we wait. It can take up to 24-48 hours for domain changes to update.

If it’s still not working after that, you should contact 123-reg to help you figure out why.
