What are root domains and subdomains?

Root domains are what you purchase when you buy a domain. An example of a root domain is  kingsandgenerals.net

Most people point their root domain to their online store.

Subdomains are additions to the root domain. For example  shop.kingsandgenerals.net

Instructions

To get your custom domain up and running with your Payhip store, we firstly need to know if you're planning to connect a root domain or a subdomain.

Show instructions for connecting root domain
  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account
  2. Click DNS in the main menu then click Manage Zones
  3. Type in your domain name in the search box and click the "Search" button
  4. In the Records area, click the pencil icon to edit the A record and you'll see a "Points to" field. Replace the existing value so it now says 45.154.183.183 then click the "Save" button
  5. In the Records area, click the pencil icon to edit the CNAME www record and replace the existing value so it now says domains.payhip.com then click the "Save" button
  6. Login to your Payhip account
  7. Click on the "Store" link in the header and then click on the "Domains" tab - you'll be taken to your domains page
  8. Click on the "Connect Existing Domain" button. A modal will appear, from there paste in your domain name and click the "Continue" button.
  9. Finally click on the "Verify Connection" button. That's it!

Now we wait. It can take up to 24-48 hours for domain changes to update.

If it’s still not working after that, you should contact GoDaddy to help you figure out why.
